The Wireless Epidemic: Controversy or Conspiracy?

I began marketing products for protection against electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in September 2007. Since then, there has been a huge increase in the use of wireless devices in everyday life; as well, in the number of daily calls and emails from customers suffering from symptoms of electromagnetic sensitivity. In earlier years, many of those looking for relief were learning, through internet searches, of the link between their ill health and EMFs; they were grateful to have their symptoms acknowledged and explained and to learn solutions were available. In recent years, I’ve seen an increase in the number of customers who identify themselves as “extremely” electromagnetic sensitive. These people feel immediate discomfort, sometimes intolerable, when close to wireless devices, entering stores or offices, when a television is turned on, etc. Most of these customers relate having a long term history of electromagnetic sensitivity that grew worse with time.
Based on customer reports, extreme cases of electromagnetic sensitivity also manifest suddenly as a result of extreme exposure. For example, there are customers who developed debilitating symptoms of electromagnetic sensitivity following the installation of cell phone towers near their homes or work place and found that even after relocating, symptoms persisted and more developed. One customer noticed her health decline dramatically within a few weeks of introducing Wi-Fi into her home. After disconnecting it, she wasn’t able to work in her profession as a writer, because she experienced intolerable discomfort whenever she touched her laptop.
The increase in cases of electromagnetic sensitivity was predicted years ago by experts who claim continued exposure to EMFs heightens sensitivity because the effects on the body are cumulative. Dr. Ollie Johanssen, a Swedish neuroscientist and leading expert declared that, based on his research, he expected 50% of the world population to exhibit symptoms of electromagnetic sensitivity by the year 2017. The incidence and severity of health symptoms associated with EMF exposure has increased to the point where members of the Canadian medical community have finally recognized electromagnetic sensitivity, as a health condition. Toronto’s Woman’s College Hospital, is the first (and at the time of this writing, the only) hospital to do so. The hospital’s announcement was delivered in a press release issued June 18, 2012. The hospital expressed a need for family doctors to learn to identify symptoms of exposure to wireless radiation. The press release also stated that “patients’ reactions vary some requiring life-altering changes to minimize exposures as much as possible”.
While the medical establishment has started to recognize the damaging effects of radio frequency, our governments continue to sell the planet’s electrical airwaves, making way for increased electropollution. For instance, the Canadian Government’s 5.4 $Billion sale of another band of frequencies, in February 2014. As well, provincial and municipal governments, are introducing more radio frequency emissions, at ground level, with the mandated installation of wireless hydro and water meters The meters transmit radiation into people's homes and into the water; apparently without any consideration of the cumulative effects in the city’s water.
Most people are unaware of the negative impact these smart meters have on their health. For some, the opportunity to relocate away from the home’s smart meter alerts them to the meter’s deleterious effects. For instance, one customer who describes herself as “a normally healthy person”, experienced “8 months of suffering” and “thought she was dying”. Her EKG and blood work were normal. She identified the home’s smart meter as the reason for her ill health after her symptoms “virtually disappeared overnight” when on vacation and reappeared immediately upon her return home. The immediate improvement in health she experienced after installing a Home EMF Protection System, confirmed her suspicions about the smart meter's effects on her health.
Most Eastern Canadians are probably unaware that thousands of people in British Columbia and Alberta engaged in an escalating rebellion against the mandated installation of smart meters. Hundreds of community groups formed in opposition, supported by Mayors and Councillors who passed resolutions calling for a moratorium on mandatory installation of smart meters. In addition to public meetings, a multitude of non-partisan internet sites were established urging visitors to “take action” and offering information “kits” with strategies and forms.
Those concerned about the health effects of smart meters point to the health risks associated with cell phones, because smart meters and cell phones both generate, what is referred to as “extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields and/or RF” and are in the same energy spectrum. On October 4, 2011, Health Canada issued a release advising the public to limit exposure to RF energy, because it may be a "possibly carcinogenic to humans” (http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hl-vs/iyh-vsv/prod/cell-eng.php). In mandating the installation of smart meters, which generate EMFs similar to those generated by cell phones, and exposing the population to a “possible carcinogenic,” the government can be seen to be acting with a serious lack of regard for public health.
Health Canada should be aware that the human body conducts man-made electromagnetic frequencies, because it is an accepted fact in conventional medicine. Many medical technologies rely, for their function, on the body’s passive acceptance and conduction of electromagnetic currents. Radiography and CT scan devices transmit electromagnetic radiation (X-ray) into the body to reveal its internal structure. This is the same for fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasound and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In generating images of the body, the MRI transmits radio frequencies into the body and also makes use of the fact that 80% of the body’s content is water, which is a conductor of electricity, to facilitate the imaging process. At specific doses, proximity and duration, radio frequency destroys DNA and cells painlessly and without the sensation of heat. It is, therefore, used in surgical procedures, such as “radiation therapy” and “ablation” to destroy tissue and nerves. More recently, a procedure known as “Radio-Frequency Transdermal Drug Delivery” has developed, which uses radio frequency ablation to create micro channels on the skin’s surface to serve as pathways for drug delivery.
There are also medical devices that make use of the fact that cells respond directly to man-made electricity. For instance, artificial pacemakers surgically implanted in the heart, generate electrical impulses that act to normalize irregular heartbeat, which is due to a slow native pacemaker or a block in the heart's electrical conduction system. Medical electronic implants or microchips are also embedded, long term, into the brain or other electrically excitable tissue. These are designed to produce transmittable recordings of the body’s electrical impulses and/or to emit electrical impulses for stimulating cell activity. Therapeutic applications include, epilepsy, paralysis, incontinence, vision, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Research is currently ongoing to develop cells that use glucose and oxygen, which are both freely available in the human body, to create electricity that would power the electronic implants indefinitely (biofuel cells).
Medical technology demonstrates that non-thermal EMFs penetrate, stimulate and destroy cells. Yet, Health Canada declares the same EMFS to be inert and permits the public to be exposed to them when generated by consumer products (cellphones, routers, etc.) and devices that are imposed on the population, such as hydro towers, cell phone towers, smart meters, etc. Woman’s College Hospital’s official recognition of Electromagnetic Sensitivity as a health condition and initiative to train doctors in recognizing the condition, allows for formal documentation of the condition. If the damaging effects of EMFs are cumulative, as experts claim, then, in the near future, documented cases of Electromagnetic Sensitivity will increase at an alarming rate. As well, public awareness will increase dramatically. Health Canada will have no choice but to reconsider its specious position.
Current Health Canada Safety Codes for electrical and wireless devices are based on the premise that the only possible harm of such devices is the burning of skin. Safety Code 6 (2009), which governs the safety of wireless devices, ensures a device will not burn the skin and specifies the maximum allowable Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for the radio frequency produced by a device. SAR is a measurement of the amount of radio frequency absorbed during use, as measured by the heating of tissue (thermal effects).
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Health revisited the code in April 2010 and determined there was no "convincing scientific evidence" of harmful non-thermal effects of wireless technology. The use of safety standards that exclude testing of non-thermal effects (i.e., Canada's SAR standard), has been challenged by those who rely on studies they claim show evidence of harmful non-thermal effects. One notable challenge of this nature was made in the recommendations to the European Parliament, presented March 2001, in “The Physiological and Environmental Effects of Non-ionising Electromagnetic” (document 297.574).
EMF studies that have looked at biological processes consistently demonstrate exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) not natural to the body, such as from man-made electricity, cell phones & towers, wifi, smart meters, computers, and wireless devices, evoke reactions in the body that weaken the immune system and cause the body to degenerate. These studies are included in the massive and growing evidence that show the human body is being adversely affected by electrification of the environment and the use of wireless devices; the degenerative effects of ongoing exposure manifests in physical, mental and cognitive impairment, diminished healing ability and reduced sense-of-well-being. EMFs are insidious and the effects are usually unnoticed because they take place in the quantum realm. below the level of human awareness. The manifestations vary between individuals, so the effects on an individual can only be determined by testing that observes differences after exposure to EMFs is eliminated.
Those among us who are the "canaries in the coal mine". Scientific studies, that are based on the view of the body as an electrically-driven being, indicate most everyone who lives in an electrified environment is in a state of dysfunctional due to EMFs. Lifestyle changes and nutrition that support good health can delay the degeneration, however, according to experts, the only sensible and the healthiest solution is to stop absorption of EMF energy and return the body back to the natural electromagnetic field of the Earth that the body was meant to reside in.
